Day 02: Kathmandu
After bf this we will proceed to see visiting the 2000 years old Swoyambhunath stupa temple, also known as "Monkey temple" This temple charms with its great dazzling stupa, while at the same time, offering a view of Kathmandu city. The two-thousand year-old stupa is the most profound expression of Buddhist symbolism in Nepal. There's evidence to believe the hill was used for animist rites even before Buddhism arrived in the valley two thousand years ago. Tantric Buddhist consider it the chief "power point"of the Kathmandu valley, and the chronicle states that an act of worship here carries thirteen billion times more merit than anywhere else. Since the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1959, the area surrounding Swoyambhu has become home to hundreds of Tibetans in exile. You will see them and many other Buddhist pilgrims making a full circuit around the hill, queuing up to spin gigantic fixed prayer wheels and frequently twirling their held ones.
After this visit Patan likes to recall its old name LALITPUR ("City of Beauty "), and although now largely absorbed by greater Kathmandu, this once powerful independent kingdom still maintains a defiantly distinct identity. Compared to Kathmandu its quite, less frenetic and more Buddhist (there may be a correlation).Above all, it remain a proud city of artisians. Enroute, visit to Tibetan refugee camp where you can see the spinning, dyeing and weaving of Tibetan carpets.
Patan is well known by its temples and handcrafts, besides the amazing creation of the beautiful fine decoration of Durbar Plaza, full of the finest pieces of newari architecture of Nepal. After Patan sighseeing drive back to hotel. Half day free for shopping or rest.
